12 out of 25: AVERAGE
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: 2/5
- A lot of scope for writing (digital and print).
- Good insight into the running of a small company establishing itself in print.
- Badly organised and seemingly little communication between colleagues and senior staff. 1 month of interning was organised and when I arrived on the Monday of week three I was told not to come back in because they had too many interns in and not enough desk space for me.
- When I requested PDFs of my work I was told that a lot of my pieces were not used in the end. However, upon seeing the printed issue of the magazine this was not the case. In fact a great deal of the issues repeat features were written by me. This has still not been recognised.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: 3/5
- Kind, friendly and inclusive team. Great office environment and atmosphere.
- I was very let down when I was turned away on my third week. The associate editor was exceptionally apologetic as were the editors.
FEEDBACK OPPORTUNITY: 4/5
- Feedback given regularly, along side constructive criticism.
- Advice and help given by associate editor about pursuing career in journalism.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES: 1/5
- Again, future opportunities were destroyed when I was turned down so quickly and without premise.
- The company is small and there is little chance of progression, as they do not have much money or many room for growth.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT: 2/5
- Travel expenses covered only.
